One day Huangyao
Huangyao was one of the locations where the movie 'The Painted Veil' was filmed. It has a history of 1000 years and is a beautiful, very well preserved old town.There are a few hundred houses in the town, built during the Qing and Ming dynasties. A river, the Sanjiang, runs through town through several canals and streams.
It is about one and a half hours drive from Yangshuo to Huangyao. You will have about 2,5 hours to explore the town.
Huangyao charges a 68 yuan (not included) entrance fee at the moment.
Taxi to Huangyao and back to the Yangshuo Outside Inn is 700 yuan.
Two day trip to Hezhou area including Huangyao
If you have a bit more time, join us on a two day trip to Hezhou area. It is non touristic, and you will see amazing old towns, ancient pagodas, unusual wind and rain bridges and beautiful scenery all around.
We stay overnight at a the Luhua hotspring in the mountains near Hezhou.
On the first day we visit a Confucius temple that dates back to the 1400's, some villages / towns that were once on the 'maritime silk route' with history dating back to the Tang dynasty. On the second day we visit a Hakkha village and Huangyao town.
Price for 2 days: 2000 yuan for 2 people.
This includes, car, driver, accomodation at the Luhua hotsprings, entrance to the hotsprings (50 yuan p.p.) and entrance ticket to Huangyao (68 yuan p.p.)

day 1 Yangshuo - Chengyang; walk through the villages,
day 2 Chengyang - Zhaoxing; a beautiful route through tea fields, villages and allong rivers
day 3 Zhaoxing; a day for hiking and watching life go by in this traditional village
day 4 Zhaoxing - Pingan; see the amazing rice terraces of Longji
day 5 Longji to Xingan; a 2000 year old canal, build at the same time as the great wall by the same emperor.
day 6 Xingan to Hezhou hotsprings, driving along the ancient maritime silkroute and its old towns
day 7 Hezhou back to Yangshuo via a Hakkha village and Huangyao ancient town.
